As our 2007-2008 concert season for Steinway Society the Bay Area draws to a close, so does my two-year tenure as President for this wonderful organization.

I leave this position with such a feeling of contentment and pride as I look back at some of the meaningful developments that have been created for our organization over the last two years. When I was asked to step into this position, I was so honored to be considered for such an important role, but I was also somewhat nervous. That same year beginning the 2006-2007 concert season also included the intense preparations for our wedding ceremony on November 3rd, 2006 in Chile, and as many of you reading this are aware, any wedding preparations can be very challenging in a local setting, much less in another country! Nevertheless, my commitment to demonstrating leadership to such a valuable organization, one to which I have a very passionate dedication because of its scope and mission of purpose, was paramount, and I knew I had the internal strength and faith to be able to handle both challenges simultaneously. However, even knowing my own strengths, I would never have been able to serve as successfully as President had it not been for the amazing support, commitment and talent of our Board of Directors. As a team, we have met many challenges with not only dignity and integrity, but also with a great sense of humor! And, the positive results have been demonstrated over and over again with the creation of new exciting programs that have given us a deeper connection to our community, as well as the attraction of new vibrant Board Members who have committed their time and talents to further grow this valuable organization.

So, as I pass on the “torch” to a newly elected President, I would like for everyone to know that even though I will not be in the same position with Steinway Society the Bay Area, I will be very present in its spirit of growth. My dedication and commitment will remain as present as it has ever been, and I will always continue to support the newly elected officers, the Board of Directors, the hard-working committees that make all of this possible, and, of course, the hard-working and dedicated office staff as well.

I leave to each of you my deepest gratitude for your tremendous continued support - our patrons, our donors, and our wonderful sponsors. Without each of us working together, the world would lose such a gift of beautiful piano music being shared in so many creative ways, and it is truly a blessing to play such a role in continuing to bring about these memorable musical moments to so many people. Thank you, again, from my heart.

With every best wish, I remain,

Janie Horton-Ramirez, President
