Pianist Barbara Nissman
To Perform in Downtown San Jose
San Jose, California -- Steinway Society of the Bay Area announces the booking engagement of pianist, Barbara Nissman, for two performances on Saturday, February 12, 2005 at 8:00 P.M. and Sunday, February 13, 2005 at 4:00 p.m. at Le Petit Trianon Theatre in downtown San Jose, California. The concert will be held at the elegant Le Petit Trianon Theater in downtown San Jose. Admission to this Concert is $35 general admission, $30 for Seniors (65+) and $25 for students.
She will be performing Three Nocturnes by Chopin; Sonata in b minor by Liszt; Sonata Op. 27, No. 2 (“Moonlight”) by Beethoven; Three Etudes-Tableaux, Op. 39 by Rachmanioff and Spanish Rhapsody by Liszt.
Well known for her definitive recordings of the complete piano music (solo & chamber) of Alberto Ginastera, and the complete piano sonatas of Sergei Prokofiev, recently reissued on Pierian Records, Barbara Nissman’s roots remain within the nineteenth century. Hailed by a New York critic as "one of the last pianists in the grand Romantic tradition of Liszt, Rachmaninoff, and Rubinstein" her connection to romantic pianism reaffirms her approach to the twentieth-century pianism of Prokofiev and Ginastera.
The Steinway Society is a volunteer based non-profit organization whose purpose is “To promote excellence in piano performance and music education in the Bay Area. The efforts of a highly committed group of volunteers has placed the Steinway Society among the most prestigious and cherished musical organizations of the Bay Area.
“Barbara Nissman is considered today to be one of the
leading interpreters of Sergei Prokofiev and Alberto
Ginastera.”
