Jazz Pianist Martan Mann and His Trio
to Perform in San Jose
SAN JOSE, CALIFORNIA -- The Steinway Society proudly presents the Martan Mann Trio on Sunday, July 18, 2004 from 7 pm at Le Petit Trianon, 72 North Fifth Street, San Jose. The Martan Mann Trio will perform a jazz performance featuring tunes by Bill Evans, Wayne Shorter, Kenny Werner, Wally Schnalle and others. This is wonderful evening of jazz, followed by a wine and cheese reception.
The Steinway Society is a non-profit volunteer based organization whose mission is ?To promote excellence in piano performance and music education in the Bay Area?. Entering its tenth season, Steinway Society will be introducing three additional concerts to its core series of six classical piano concerts. The three additional concerts will range in genre from classical-oriented living composers, to American music, and Brazilian Jazz. In addition to the Martan Mann Trio concert, we feature a concert by Grammy Nominated Pianist, Leanne Rees on Saturday, August 28, 2004, 800 pm. Similar to tonights concert, all proceeds will benefit Steinway Society’s outreach, education and scholarship efforts.
Jazz pianist, recording artist, author, lecturer, jazz piano instructor, Martan Mann, covers the entire musical spectrum, from classical to jazz. He is the author of three internationally published books on improvisation; CDs; DVD's and instructional videos. As a jazz performer, Martan has performed extensively throughout California and Hawaii, with several of his different musical groups and in diverse music styles. Some recent performances include The San Jose Jazz Festival, Tapestry in Talent, The Kuumbwa Jazz Center, The Blues and Jazz Store, The Jazz on the Wharf in Santa Cruz, Ward's Rafter's in Honolulu and for 25 years as jazz pianist at San Jose's leading jazz club, The Garden City. Martan was recently musical director of two musical revues, "The Cole Porter Revue", and "Gershwin, Gershwin".
He has authored five books and videos including, "Jazz Improvisation for the Classical Pianist", continuously published internationally since 1988 by Music Sales Corp. in New York. He is a nationally prominent lecturer on music improvisation and provides clinics and performances to music teachers organizations, universities and other private music groups. Martan holds a Master's Degree in Music from San Jose State University. For the past three years, Martan has taught jazz piano at the San Jose Jazz Camp. He has been the musical director of Silicon Valley Unity for the past two years. He is a member of the Music Teacher's Association of California as an active music teacher in the Bay Area and Honolulu for the past 36 years.
This performance by the Martan Mann Trio will feature original jazz compositions by Martan Mann, Dan Robbins and Wally Schnalle, as well as original arrangements of jazz standards.
