Ursula Oppens to perform in the Steinway Society’s concert series
held at Le Petit Trianon Theater in San Jose

SAN JOSE, California -- The Steinway Society The Bay Area will feature pianist Ursula Oppens in a concert to be held at Le Petit Trianon Theater in downtown San Jose on Sunday, March 21 at 7:00 p.m. General admission tickets are $25, $20 for Seniors 65 and over, and $15 for full time students.

The Steinway Society is a volunteer based non-profit organization whose purpose is "To promote excellence in piano performance and music education in the Bat Area." Ms. Oppens concert is the seventh in the series of piano performances presented by the Steinway Society’s 2003-04 season. The efforts of a highly committed group of volunteers has placed the Steinway Society among the most prestigious and cherished musical organizations of the Bay Area.

A native New Yorker, Ursula Oppens has been the recipient of numerous musical awards, among them the first prize at the 1970 Busoni International Competition. She performs as orchestral soloist and in chamber music in music centers and festivals throughout the United States and Europe. Ms. Oppens has been acclaimed as a persuasive interpreter of classical repertory and a tireless champion of contemporary music. Throughout her career, an enduring commitment to integrating new music into regular concert programs has led Ms. Oppens to commission and premiere many new compositions, such as works by Anthony Davis, Elliot Carter, Gyorgi Ligeti, Charles Wourinen and others.

Ms. Opens will perform works by Beethoven, Scriabin, Lou Harrison, and Ravel.
