Alexander Tselyakov To Perform At
2003 International Russian Music Piano Competition
Steinway Society The Bay Area announces the booking engagement of concert pianist Alexander Tselyakov on Sunday, May 25, 2003 at 7:00pm. Mr. Tselyakov’s performance at the Le Petit Trianon Theatre located in Downtown San Jose is in conjunction with the 2003 International Russian Music Piano Competition. Tickets are priced at $25.00 General and $20.00 for Students and Seniors 65 and over. A special package offer of $75.00 General and $65.00 for Students and Senior 65 and over has been established for the eight day competition that includes five concerts and the “Russian Extravaganza”.
The Steinway Society is a non-profit volunteer based organization whose mission is “To promote excellence in piano performance and music education in the Bay Area”. Steinway Society is proud to once again Sponsor and Co-present the International Russian Music Piano Competition and Extravaganza. In our ninth season, the Russian Extravaganza is the 6th and concluding event of the Steinway Society’s 2002-2003 Concert Season.
Founded in the year 2000 by Dan and Irina Morgan, the Third Annual Russian International Music Piano Competition and Extravaganza will feature 40 international competitors from 17 countries and nearly 100 competitors in total. The countries that will be represented in this years’ competition include Venezuela, Ecuador, South Africa, China, Korea, Uzbekistan, Latvia, Armenia, Azerbaidjan, Italy, Germany, Canada, England, Ukraine, and the USA. The event begins with opening ceremonies and a concert by award winning pianist and adjudicator Vladimir Viardo on Friday, May 23rd at 7:00PM and concludes on Saturday, May 31st with the Russian Extravaganza. The Extravaganza will provide an evening of entertainment including Russian Opera, folk music, dancing, Russian Delicacies, wine and vodka tasting and a special performance by the competitions jury members in their “Jury Flurry”.
Outstanding, Russian born Canadian pianist Alexander Tselyakov is widely regarded as one of the most talented piano virtuosos performing today. He has been described as a phenomenal pianist having an intoxicating sound and a perfect artistic individuality. His commanding technique and exceptional critical acclaim, whether for solo recitals or prestigious orchestral engagements.
Alexander has won leading prezes at the prestigious International Tchaikovsky Competition, the Tokyo International Music competition and has earned the admiration of conductors, musical colleagues and the international press with pianism of the hghest artistic standards. Alexander has performed frequently with leading orchestras including the Leningrad Philharmonic, the Moscow Philharmonic, the Moscow Radio symphony, the Tokyo Philharmonic, the Buffalo Philharmonic, the Virginia Symphony, Symphony Nova
Scotia and the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, just to name a few. Recent concerts have included a sell out concert at Carnegie Recital hall, a highly successful and critically acclaimed concert at Wigmore Hall in London, performances at The Corcoran Gallery of Art (Washington), The Centre Culturel, Paris, France, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, and the International Piano Festival in Istanbul. His future engagements include International Piano Festival (San Francisco), Ottawa International Chamber Music Festival, Warsaw National Philharmonic Orchestra, Moscow Radio Tchaikovsky Academic Bolshoi Symphony Orchestra, Recital at the Phillips Collection (Washington) Festival in Bad Kissingen (Germany), Theatre du Chatelet (Paris), Embassy Series, Washington, Japan Concert Tour, Blackheath Hall (London), Vendsyssel Festival (Denmark), the Danish Radio, Prinzegententheatre Munchen, Germany, Stockholm - Royal Palace Music Festival, Sweden, Bösendorfer Saal, Wien, Austria, Cristofori Concerten Hall, Amsterdam, Concert & Congress Centre de Doelen, Rotterdam, Netherlands.
Mr. Tselyakov will be performing works by Canadian Composer Srul Irving Glick, Chopin, Rachmaninoff, and Shchedrin.
