Silver Medallist Maxim Phillipov To Perform in San Jose
Steinway Society The Bay Area announces the booking engagement of Concert Pianist Maxim Phillipov on Sunday March 30th 2003 at 7:00PM. Mr. Phillipov will be performing at the Le Petit Trianon Theatre located in downtown San Jose. Tickets are priced at $35.00 General and $25.00 for Students and Seniors 65 and over.
The Steinway Society is a non-profit volunteer based organization whose mission is “To promote excellence in piano performance and music education in the Bay Area”. Entering its ninth season, the Maxim Phillipov performance is the fifth concert of the Steinway Society’s six concert 2002-2003 Season.
Moscow-born Maxim Phillipov was the silver medallist at the eleventh annual Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in 2001. Mr. Phillipov was awarded two years of concert engagements and career management as well as a compact disc recording of his award-winning performances for the harmonia mundi label. Emerging as one of today’s most engaging interpreters of Rachmaninoff, Phillipov has recorded two discs devoted to the solo works of this composer. The harmonia mundi disc featuring his Cliburn competition performance of several Rachmaninoff Preludes, Op.32 was released too much critical acclaim.
"…an almost note-perfect pianist with a…caressing tone and a powerful technical command of his instrument. Extended chordal passages were beautifully voiced…His octaves were grandly authoritative…. Phillipov obviously loves his music, has firm ideas about how it should go, and sculpts it at the keyboard much as Rachmaninoff himself did…with deadly accuracy, sweep and cumulative nobility." - Ronald Broun, The Washington Post
Mr. Philipov will be performing works by Mozart, Schumann, Liszt and Rachmaninoff.
