Hungarian Pianist Jenó Jandó
To Perform In San Francisco And In San Jose
Hungarian pianist Jeno˝ Jandó will present recitals at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 27, at the Herbst Theatre in San Francisco, 401 Van Ness Ave., and on Saturday, March 1, at the Le Petit Trianon Theatre, 72 North Fifth Street in downtown San Jose.
In San Francisco, the program will include: Franz Schubert - Sonata in C minor D.958; Franz Liszt - Funerailles, Two Legends, St Francis of Assisi preaching to the birds and St Francis of Paola walking on waves; Béla Bartók - Sonata /1926; plus additional selections.
The program in San Jose will include the following: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart - Sonata in A major KV.331; Ludwig van Beethoven - Moonlight Sonata op.27.No.2; Franz Liszt Funerailles; and Frederic Chopin - F Major Nocturne, C Minor Nocturne, Ballade No.3. in A flat Major, and Ballade No.4. in F minor. The recitals are presented by the Corvinus Hungarian Cultural Group.
Jeno˝ Jandó was born in 1952 in Pécs, South Hungary, where he began his piano studies at the age of seven. His most influential teacher was Pál Kadossa at the Franz Liszt Music Academy in Budapest.
Jeno˝ Jandó’s recordings include works by Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Bach, Bartok, Brahms, Dohnanyi, Gershwin, Grieg, Kodaly, Liszt, Schubert, Schumann, Rachmaninov, and Tsajkovskij. His recording of Bartok’s Violin Sonatas received a Grammy nomination for Best Chamber Music Recording of 1995. In 1995 he also received a platinum disc to mark worldwide sales in excess of 1.5 million for his recordings on the Naxos label. Within the last four years, Mr. Jandó has received the Bartok-Pasztory Award, the Kossuth Award, and the International Liszt Society Award.
